Reinventing. reusing, combining fragments to form a new, meaningful whole is an enchanting process. I have a soft spot for artwork that finds exciting ways to deal with the past and the mundane. This poster - a collage created from found objects- by Akayo was an instant favorite.
You don't need big surfaces to get a wonderful piece of art. Akayo's talent impresses even in the tiniest format of this fine pin button. His sense of colors and the graffiti character and slogan is delicious! From stickers to city walls, from galleries to skateboards: this artist from San Francisco Bay Area knows no boundaries.

Mythos revisited
I'm talking about Cthulhu Mythos of course, the brilliant legacy of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, and the strange designs it inspires.
Let's start with this totally surreal, pseudo-photograph by CthulhuCthulhu, a store dedicated to cthulhian creepiness. Have you ever wondered why there was nothing in the family album about the obscure Innsmouth branch? This unique postcard gives you the answer! This amphibian-looking fellow may well be Captain Obed Marsh himself -and slightly reminiscent of Captain Beefheart's Trout mask replica album cover.
The style of Scythemantis is quite different. His work is cartoonish and playful, paying an imaginative homage to the Great Race of Yith. Do these yithian tentacles hold the Pnakotic Manuscripts? Scythemantis's work is well-versed and rich in details so I guess the answer is yes.
Finally, I should remind you to check this older post about Bradley W.Schenck's magnificent work at Ars Celtica. Some of the best Mythos-inspired artwork lurks there, sleeping but not dead!

Airship piracy
Two posts ago we visited the future with a trolley car. This time we'll use more grandiose means: would you like taking a trip to the (retro-)future by this marvelous airship?
I found this t-shirt in Evil Genius Tees, a gallery full of retro futurism, Victorian sci-fi, steampunk, pirates and -as promised by it's title- evil geniuses! Have a look at another favorite:
So, we have our vessel, we have our lady engineer...I guess we are ready to go, courtesy of the fine, imaginative designs of Mrs. Evil Genius herself!
