Mysterious monkey

Smokin Monkey speckcase

How about the coolest monkey illustration for your iPhone 4 skin? The simian dude is smartly dressed, smokes his cigarette and wears his sunglasses even amidst the nocturnal ambiance of this surrealistically noir painting. The artist is Michael Cook of Cookies Fortune, where animals tend to behave in all kinds of unexpected ways!

Zazzle dresses your walls

The long-awaited revamp on Zazzle's prints and posters seems to be finally here! Zazzle introduces new, exciting features that will surprise sellers and customers alike:
  • Real professional photography prints
  • Wrapped canvas prints
  • Standard and custom framing
  • A complete makeover of posters tool
And that's not all: Giclée Prints (one of the most precise methods of reproducing fine art) are soon to be available!
At last, Zazzle's prints and posters enter a new era and I'm pretty excited about the possibilities.

You can learn all about it (and maybe create your own) in Zazzle's iPod Touch page.

Kant's Maxim and Nixon

Nixon Apron apron

Nixon and apron are two words I wouldn't consider putting together. But here they are, in this amazing concept from HeideGear, a shop created from two philosophy students. They playfully mix philosophic concepts with irony (with some good old absurdism thrown in) and the results are amazing!

Universalizing Maxim print

The Nixon apron is great, but have a look at this magazine-like poster! The references in the titles are priceless. Their artwork is one of the coolest things ever made out of the crooked timber of humanity!

Surrealitee's Doodle speakers

I'm proud to present you with Surrealitee's Doodle speakers.
Zazzle offers this product for about a month and they're quite a gadget: Ultra portable, good sound for the size and a treat to the eye! I'm posting some thumbnails here but there's more -and, hopefully, I'll be soon adding quite a few.

Due to a rather hectic timetable (i.e. me being really lazy...), it took me some time to decide which designs would fit this interesting medium. Do check them out and tell me what you think.

Helvetica, the neue black

Graphic designers and font lovers will appreciate this humorous homage to Helvetica (especially the Neue Helvetica font family, which brought the much-loved typeface to the modern era). It's a simple text design that tells it like it is!
I found this t-shirt on Busted Nut Designs and I couldn't resist the temptation! It's smart, funny and (hey!) it's about Helvetica.

Ground control to Major Tom

We've lost the signal connecting us with the astronaut designed on this Doodle Speaker and the effect is cool yet, somehow, eerie. I like the TV bars on the helmet's face and the subdued colors on this fine design by 785Tees, a store with a wide variety of great concepts on tees, prints and other goodies!

Mona Lisa de los muertes

Well designed cultural mash-up: Mona Lisa, propaganda poster style, the Mexican Dia de los Muertes, plus a hint of the kind of artwork Deadheads love (sorry for the pun: I was thinking about Grateful Dead fans!).
Great postcard from kBill TV, a store with novelty items that take a step beyond the usual!

If La Muerta Lisa is not proof enough, well, maybe this stoner Jack will convince you about kBill's strange sense of humor!

Fetish and romance

It seems that, in the hands of the right artist, bondage, duct tape and true love can find a common ground! This ingenious card plays with the black forms and produces a sexy effect. You don't have to be a latex fan to appreciate this great design but if you are a kinky love aficionado, you'll find tasteful, unexpected treasures in the Pollock Path store.
They say they are a little borderline and not your average zazzle store. They are absolutely right. This -and a good deal of talent- earns them a place in the heart of Surreality Watch!

Paper owls

These sweet paper owls perching on a tree are deliciously old-school! You have to love the craftsmanship on this paper art design that brings a fairytale mood to a simple postcard.
I found it on Simplistic Irony, a store where many more happy creatures dwell (well, some of them are people or zombies, but that makes it even more interesting, doesn't it?).

Coffee-loving killer mammals

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw this poster. This angry killer bunny means business -and I must admit that's how I feel every morning when I wake up! Coffee addicts of the world, unite and grab the print with the pissed off character right now. You'll find it on Kenn Wislander's store, alongside many cartoon characters (like the notorious Pink-eyed Panda!).

Sick nostalgia

Is this Norman Rockwell on LSD? A 50s propaganda artist trying his hand on being cute? Cold War's latest trend?
I don't really know... What I do know is that it's strange, funny, surreal and kitschy and I want one right away! I found it in Curious Goods, a store full of strange ephemera and unusual nostalgic pieces. I'll be coming back for a closer look, since they offer a gazillion amazing designs thought lost in the annals of time!

Zazzle launching custom speakers

This is great news and I can't wait to see the designs created for the tiny but effective and beautiful Doodle speakers!
Zazzle has announced that they'll launch the speakers in about 17 days. You may find more about this in the Doodle Speakers launch page and you may download the template for the designs here.

Abstract freedom

Here is a powerful, intense print in the best abstract expressionist tradition. I love the forms and the overall feeling, especially the bold, high contrast -although there are color version to chose from.
The artist is Omar Sangiovanni of Sangi Design, and I honestly believe he is offering some great artwork.  Go check him out, his prints will shine on any surface!

Mondo weird

Being a fan of old kitschy b-movies I couldn't help but adore this old school design that gets it's inspiration from 60s b-movie posters. You've got your semi-nude girl, your psychedelic typeface and the concentric cycles to make your eyes hurt plus a title that promises weirdness. What else would you want, right?
Well, you might want all these on a great Speck iPad case... The ultimate shop for vintage goodness, Black and White Only, just took care of it. Ain't it groovy?

Mind-boggling

Thank God for the limitless imagination of dadaist artists! I love this amazing contraption and the mind exploding weirdness of this mouse pad. My surreality detector is wildly beep-beeping with this design from Articulation.

Craftsmanship photography

I don't post about photography as much as I would like too. The reason might be that it's not often I find something as inspiring as this splendid black and white shot of a shoeshiner at work. Great photo, in the classic tradition of the old masters, from Maurizio Merisi and his ARTigiani Project -an effort to depict the techniques and the stories of craftsmen and artisans from around the world.

Mr.Wolf & Mr.Tapir

Mr.Wolf is slowly dressing himself for dinner in this hilarious t-shirt from Squirrell. There is a smart, subtle sense of humor in the way this artist perceives the world. Sometimes sweet and tender, sometimes with darker undertones but always with graceful intelligence. The animal cartoons are top-notch!

Plus, this may well be the only place in the web where you may find one of the most under-represented animals in the universe of apparel design: a tapir! Indeed, it's such a gentle drawing that makes you feel sad for all those run-of-the-mill animal shirts out there. They don't know what they're missing!

Wild-eyed

A wild eye in shoes and a derby hat runs with his... tongue out! Crazy enough for you? If not, I should point out the little wings that grow from his sides. All these and more on this cool brown shirt that carries the trippy, hippie, underground comic's style from the 60s and early 70s.

It's one of the many great designs and products you will find on KBill TV, a shop that will take you by surprise!

Skeletons wanted

Simple, bold colors, strong forms and a great idea: this is one of the best tote bags I've seen! This creepy skeleton is wanted -no need to add "dead or alive", is there?- and Maggie, from Zazzle Holidays, created a winner in this seriously wanted canvas bag. I've discovered it amongst this shop's countless holiday designs.
