Coffee mug tsunami

I don't know about you but, me, I can't have enough coffee mugs. I'm not really into tea but I couldn't live without coffee and I just love a good mug! This one here, created by Mariela Alvarez Xiloj (an artist/photographer from Puerto Rico) for Xalomako, is my current favorite. It pictures a city in the throes of a tsunami. Colorful, fresh and vibrant, like most of the stuff of the store.

Life reused

Reinventing. reusing, combining fragments to form a new, meaningful whole is an enchanting process. I have a soft spot for artwork that finds exciting ways to deal with the past and the mundane. This poster - a collage created from found objects- by Akayo was an instant favorite.

You don't need big surfaces to get a wonderful piece of art. Akayo's talent impresses even in the tiniest format of this fine pin button. His sense of colors and the graffiti character and slogan is delicious! From stickers to city walls, from galleries to skateboards: this artist from San Francisco Bay Area knows no boundaries.
If his store isn't enough for you, there's more beauty to explore in his website.

Broken and afraid

Love lost, heartbreak expressed right on the skin of the city. Someone poured his heart out, adding another personal story on the urban landscape, and Rob Greenleaf was there to capture the feeling with this splendid photo.
Rob's photography and fine sense of composition are used to make statements and tell stories. It's not just about postcards, cards and other useful products, it's about focusing on life and sharing the things you see. Overall, a great artist and a great store!
If you're already drooling for more, you should go visit Rob's blog, too.

Gioconda of the streets

The colors on this mousepad are amazing. So is the concept behind this Mona Lisa graffiti, found in the streets of London by the photographer of Lamrock Images.A curator of urban landscape, handpicking street art shrapnel with a keen eye and unique sensitivity.
He captures graffiti and curiosities with a great sense of composition, giving us strange and poetic snapshots. Sometimes the art is already there to be spotted. Even then, it gets transformed into something more crucial and intense. In this store you won't find just apparel, prints and pretty gifts. You'll find the soul of a city.

Yesterday's snow

Was it the day the picture was taken? Is it something special on February 11th, something that changed the artist's life? We don't know and it doesn't matter. What matters is this strange design with the red and ochre hues and the grungy texture. The weird-looking sky and the wires that travel through it. It's a great mousepad from Krissy B.
I love the use of these vibrant colors over dirty backgrounds. Krissy's style is at it's best when it is unexpected and intense. Plus, dinosaurs never looked so playful before!

Sunny city

Yes! A sunny, happy city, like a child's drawing. Simple lines, pretty yellow sun and (presto!) a feelgood t-shirt to drive the worries away. Found in Simple n'Art, where joyful designs and colors abound.

Urbanism

Artimatter sends greetings from the big city in a grungy, urban-cool design that looks great in this lime ladies' t-shirt (you can customize it, of course, but I think it's great as it is). I like the rainbow over the monochromatic cityscape. The outcome is both fresh and strong.

Cityscape

It's the first time in human history that more people live in cities than in the countryside. What we think of as our environment has less to do with nature than with the cities we dwell in -a fact of many consequences, some of them quite unpleasant. This reflects in the art we make and the things we come to admire as beautiful.
This great poster is a good example of modern urban naive, created by Andy Mercer and found in his gallery, aptly named Urban Icons.
His work is always strong -whether in color or in black and white. You could find more about this awarded artist from England by visiting his great website.

Strange mood

It's been some time since I last worked on a photography-based design. The sky in this one was so vivid that I only had to fiddle a little with the contrast and saturation. Something was missing, though. Until I thought of the swing in the sky. I believe it has an otherwordly quality. It sure looks good in print, if I do say so myself.

I was not sure about the title. By looking at this image I can tell that something of great importance is about to happen. I kept the first thing that came into mind: a rain of blood. Can you hear the wind blowing and the squeaking of the swing's chains?
