D.Silva's designs seem to have a life of their own, a strange tendency to leave their canvas and roam freely among us (well, that would be the stuff nightmares are made of!). He is inspired by tattoos, comics, punk, graffiti, steampunk, video games and animals, and his imagination absorbs them and creates pure gems.

It's not the first time he is featured here (there was this Screaming Flowers post, some time ago) and the reason is obvious: His shop is a must see!

It's time to present with the latest of my typography projects, the New Black design. What is the new black? According to trendsetters it's something new every season -then again, nothing ever becomes the "new" black, the... old one is doing fine, thank you very much!

According to me, it's a way to be sarcastic to the trendies and/or to signify that you (meaning: each individual) make personal choices that may well be the exact opposite of a new fad. Every one of us is the "new black" and none of us is, because we are not a herd and our tastes are diverse.

I put that in text, in bold lettering combined with thin drawn lines -unfortunately they can't be seen in the small previews- in what I believe to be a striking but simple design. Deconstructing architecture

I have featured dadaist artwork but I think this is the first one that relies more on solid graphic design than conceptual art. And the design is great: the typography and the deconstructed architectural elements manage to please the eye and challenge the mind too!
This is a great  poster by DeVico, a store that doesn't rely on quantity but presents us with quite a few pleasant surprises.

The End

End Title dark t-shirt by surrealitee

This rendition of a classic old film's end title is my latest typography design. I was charmed by the calligraphic font and the nostalgia of old Hollywood. At the same time, it evokes a strange, slightly ominous feeling.

A new design where the Hollywood sign gets the discordian treatment! The famous lettering is used to spell Holy Chao, the Sacred Chao of Discordianism. What is the Chao?
In the words of Malaclypse the Younger:

The Sacred Chao symbolizes absolutely everything anyone need ever know about absolutely anything, and more! It even symbolizes everything not worth knowing, depicted by the empty space surrounding the Hodge-Podge.

Holy Chao black mousepad by surrealitee

You could say it's the symbol that depicts the balance between order and chaos. In this case, I used the Hollywood cultural reference as a pretext to convey the meaning of the Sacred Chao without showing the symbol itself. A simple, humorous mashup, really. Puzo, the multi-talented artist behind this design, votes in favor of the hand holding the marker. His hand finds happiness in strong lines, ink drips and chaotic -yet solid and expressive- composition. I wish I could see his work on my street. Well, at least there's always the internet!

For some, the '70s was the decade of the decline of the hippie culture, the rise of neoliberalism, the oil crisis, disco music or, maybe, the first PCs. For others it was the time when the recently deceased roamed the earth feeding on the flesh of the terrified living. Blame it on George A. Romero, the director that shaped the ghouls to come with his Night of the Living Dead in 1968 and, in 1978, created his most powerful zombie attack ever with the legendary Dawn of the Dead.
Fans are well-versed in the importance of the Monroeville Mall in the film and I'm sure they will appreciate this great ringer- shirt that pays homage to Romero's dark social comment. Being a fan myself, I was glad to discover this cool design from GritFX, a store with a keen eye for TV and Movie culture, strange humor and overall delicious weirdness!
