Abstract freedom


Here is a powerful, intense print in the best abstract expressionist tradition. I love the forms and the overall feeling, especially the bold, high contrast -although there are color version to chose from.
The artist is Omar Sangiovanni of Sangi Design, and I honestly believe he is offering some great artwork.  Go check him out, his prints will shine on any surface!

The Tarot phone


This expressionistic ink drawing is an almost nightmarish version of tarot's Hanged Man card. Placed brilliantly in an iPhone 4 case, seems to tell a story of life and death. The skeletal figure is affecting and dramatic. The artist is Fabio Sanna, a graphic designer and illustrator, whose bold and vivid style has a dark undertone that suits my taste!

Reminiscing about llamas



Nothing like a trip down memory lane to think about good times, llamas and this crazy bunch that changed comedy -and the way we view the world- forevah! Yeah, I know, there are people who think that Monty Python is the used-to-be-geek-but-is-so-mainstream-now kind of thing but I think that's silly. The true Masters of their Art remain Masters -that's the reason they were not a passing fad in the first place.

I had totally forgotten about this sketch until I saw it again recently. And I remembered the outrageous talent and the unparalleled inventiveness of these guys. True paradigm shifters. So, I had to share.

The tiny people of Slinkachu


Tiny people living their everyday lives in the surreal background of our own world. The poetry hidden in the paradoxical images of Slinkachu's art astonished me.

 
Street installations and photography based on concepts both weird and enchanting. You may find more about this unique artist and his work on Slinkachu.com.

 
His new solo show, Concrete Ocean, opens 2nd March 2011 at Andipa Gallery in London. Those in the UK shouldn't miss it for the world. I know I wouldn't!

Maximal ink


This pen is definitely mightier than the sword! It can add a unique aquarium on your wall, made of countless little lines...

... or populate the world with surreal creatures, full of details. The hand that holds the pen and draws imaginative, maximalistic ink art belongs to Eli Helman, a truly talented artist with a very personal way of taking black and white to a whole new level. Sometimes color is not enough!

Top 10 Zazzle Graffiti designs

The pulse of the city, the writing on the wall, the canvas for daring artists, the uttering of saints, prophets and delinquents. Graffiti. I love it. I searched thousands of designs to find what I consider to be the most interesting ones. Here they are, for your pleasure and mine, the graffiti crème de la crème up to March 2011:

Mutant ideas


Attention to detail, exquisite craftsmanship and, most of all, the ability to transform the political into art makes Emek one of the most talented artists around. I love this surreal corn fish (a design against genetically modified food) and his incredible phonoskull, but his store is full of equally amazing artwork.
Emek has worked with Radiohead, Tool, System of a Dawn, Neil Young and Henry Rollins (amongst many others), has been interviewed and featured countless times and i"m almost ashamed that I just descovered about his artsproject/zazzle store.

Cards as an art form


I think of cards -postcards and greeting cards- as small, portable posters. It's a great format for an artist to showcase his work and for us to easily obtain, enjoy and offer it. The beautiful cards I found in Oblique validate my opinion. The Venus de Milo above (inspired from one of the most appraised works of ancient Greek sculpture) is an exquisite example of Oblique's art: minimal, monochromatic, modern with a classical twist, well-balanced. Seemingly simple lines that let the design breathe and shine.

Crash test drinking and cow abductees


A crash test dummy drinks it off in a bar, while a duck solemnly watches. Is this an unusual painting to put on an iPad case? It may be, and it makes me like it all the more because of this. It has an eerie, surreal mood -and I just love the painted palm trees in the bar stool!
Welcome to the wonderful, strange world of Leah Saulnier, an extraordinary artist with a keen eye for weird themes that mix dreamlike situations with a subtle sense of humor. Her colors are astonishing and the concepts she comes up with, make me jealous!

The alien school bus abducting a cow is another one of my (many) favorites of her amazing store. When it comes to creating beauty from over the top ideas, she's the absolute queen of the show. Let's not forget that she created one of my favorite 2011 calendars as well -behold the link below. Leah, you rule!

The yeti and the whale


My surreality sensors are about to explode in front of this mouse pad. Lionel the Lion-faced boy (a two-headed Chewbacca look-alike) stands under a jumping whale. The duo is pictured in front of London's Hammersmith Bridge -plus a red background. Folks... you have to see this.
It's one of Zosia Olenska's artworks and, boy, is she unexpected or what! Her themes include peacock mutants, sea foxes, guts and all sorts of crazy stuff that make eccentric people like me happy! Way to go, Zosia!

With strange aeons even death may get up-to-date. Shaz Justice sees to it and offers this ringer shirt with a darkly humorous cartoon of a new and improved Charon. The design belongs to her "Lighter side of Dark" series: gothic art that doesn't take itself too seriously and brings a smile to your face.
Her characters range from cute to hilarious -or both, as this Reaper 3.0 comes to prove. I just love his golden scull necklace, and I can't help but noticing the downsizing that took place, considering that the traditional Reaper was depicted as much taller. It looks like Death jumped on the "efficiency and sustainability" bandwagon!

I love the lines in the art of argentine Patricia Vidour.
I love their intricacy and power, their ability to create a new world. Paty paints women and expresses all
aspects of femininity with themes that transgress ages and eras.


My personal favorite is this stunning Mayan queen. There is a certain pose, a sense of ritual that I find irresistible.

Hand-drawn Head



The Head is an exquisite animated short film, made out of solid craftsmanship and surreal imagination. Watch the weird adventures of it's hero, a huge robot-like creature that absorbs things in his head, and admire the talents of the Argentine artists Matias Vigliano, Dante Zaballa and Ariel Gandolfo -art direction, animation and sound design, respectively.

Absurd surreality


A mysterious collage inspired by the work of Marcel Duchamp (I'm still in my Dada mood!), where a gentleman's head becomes a map. This is a black and white poster for the surreal minded, by Squaresquire.
It's incredible to see this kind of art looking fresh and retro at the same time. Hang it on your wall and feel your head expand!

Nude and raw


Great artwork from Mark Mellon in the small format of a greeting card. A watercolor of a nude woman, made in bold strokes and the vividness of black, white and red. I love the red mark on her solar plexus.

Afro-Cthulhu disturbing peace


This is a truly unprecedented Cthulhu reference! John Jennings summoned his great talent and came up with a remarkable afro cthulhoid -while avoiding the hideous "cute Cthulhu" rubbish that plagues the web. Strange, funny and powerful art, true to the artist's strong and gritty style.
