A saint's graceful dance

This is my latest vector-based design, the silhouette of a saint with the grace of a dancer and a bird perching on his hand. I hope it conveys an easy, fluid feeling. The kind I would expect someone who has achieved a unique level of balance and stability to radiate.

As for me, I'm rather proud of the balance of the design -it didn't come easy. I was thinking of a relaxed kind of power, as opposed to the destructive kind we are used to. I'm not sure this is religious. It could be, in a subtle, non-dogmatic sort of way.
As always, it is for sale on a great variety of products under the Saints Dancing category of my zazzle store.

Voodoo on

I seem to have developed quite a taste for voodoo designs lately. Maybe it's the fascinating mixture of occult, intense imagery, religious syncretism and multicultural influences that cause lots of strange and beautiful things to happen. A fine example is Denise Alvarado's work for the Voodoo Butik store.

Both the the wild-eyed voodoo dolls of the postcard and the mysterious collage on the bookplate showcase  folk art's dynamism and voodoo's unique flavor of spirituality. Check the store for more colorful artwork!

Saving people, one molecule at a time

I wouldn't expect to find a t-shirt that mixes religion and chemistry but, over time, I've come to accept that people leave no stones unturned in their strife to find unique concepts. A nanojesus on a molecular cross is rather unique, don't you think?
This is a one-of-a kind mixture of science imagery and humorous approach to Christianity by the hands (and the brains!) of Kyle Finchingmate, a chemist with quite a few artistic ideas.

Message to the goddess

In this poster I see an attractive combination of folk art and Greek-Orthodox iconography (the flat background, the stylized muscles and golden elements are some of the characteristics of Byzantine religious art). Yet, instead of the introversion and the austerity of forms there is so much sweetness expressed in the lady's face and the bird!
Madonna, female deity or an expression of femininity? It doesn't matter... What matters is the quiet beauty of this painting made and offered by Lynnette Shelley, a great painter and illustrator from Philadelphia. Her rich, imaginative colors and shapes are outstanding.

Chaos revisited.

An an eight-pointed star with arrows at the ends has come to symbolize chaos, a state without order or predictability. This symbolization was conceived by the great British science fiction author Michael Moorcock, mostly known for his Elric of Melniboné works, a man of such diverse talent that cannot be confined by any genre.

This was my inspiration for the creation of Chaos Revisited product line, a study on the artistic possibilities of this symbol and a reference to the unpredictable and ever changing aspects of Man (or Woman, if you will!), of the world and of reality itself.
I see in it a cousin to the Tao symbol, or even to the humorous Holy Chao of Discordianism. In my mind, it carries similar connotations, bringing forth a fluidity of thought, opening new creative ways and helping fight dogmas. A liberating sigil to enable paradigm-shifting, to create new paths and to demolish our certainties. In a way, a symbol of what life itself does!
I do hope you find it interesting and beautiful. It's been carefully applied to a variety of apparel, paper stuff and other goodies -most of them customizable.
