It's been 50 years since Yuri Gagarin became the first man to ever orbit the earth in his Vostok spacecraft. Besides, on this day, 27th March 1968, this pioneer cosmonaut died when his training jet crashed. Being a space buff I can't help but feeling nostalgic for this era of cold war giants. Ergo, I like both these t-shirts, the photograph-based one from HBToie and the more stylized one from Futbolko.

This is an ill-boding and sinister postcard, designed for occult lovers, horror fans and -of course!- Howard Phillips Lovecraft aficionados. It's part of the artwork created by Inmate93 for his Penderghast Asylum project that spawned many interesting dark and lovecraftian ideas (including the stupendous "F'tagh'n, Y'all" motto!).
It's macabre, eerie and so creepy you can almost hear the sound of crawling tentacles and disappearing sanity. Well, my beloved and weird readers, what else do you want?

I think of cards -postcards and greeting cards- as small, portable posters. It's a great format for an artist to showcase his work and for us to easily obtain, enjoy and offer it. The beautiful cards I found in Oblique validate my opinion. The Venus de Milo above (inspired from one of the most appraised works of ancient Greek sculpture) is an exquisite example of Oblique's art: minimal, monochromatic, modern with a classical twist, well-balanced. Seemingly simple lines that let the design breathe and shine.

This is a postcard (Found on JB Wystan's store) that would appeal to gym freaks, trainers, weightlifters, bodybuilders or just plain curiosity seekers like myself. I've acquired a taste for images of textures or objects printed on products.They seem to become metaphors of what the photo represents.
Take this card, for example: whatever you choose to write in the back can get a whole new meaning when connected with the weight in front. You can play with words or find new ways to express yourself. No need to carry the load all by yourself anymore!

Marcel Duchamp, the famous French dadaist and surrealist, would be proud of this creation that celebrates his own weird Mona Lisa experiments.In fact, I like this more -it probably has to do with the Frank Zappa-esque mustache!
This wonderfully absurd postcard is a collage from Objets Trouvés, a store that is not a store but (true to it's name) a handful of assorted dadaist works waiting to be found in the backstreets of zazzle.com.

This brilliant postcard works on so many levels:
It conjures a humorous nostalgia for cheap sensationalist book covers from the '50s. It parodies both the flying saucer craze and the stereotyped "white folk's interests" theme that has white people complaining for stupid things and being smart in useless stuff. It pays a funny homage to Frank Scully (the writer who single-handedly created the UFO crash mania back in 1949) by using the original cover from Scully's Behind the Flying Saucers book.
Kudos to FBod Studios for offering this gem.

[And, yes, F.Scully was the inspiration for Dana Scully's name.]
