Asses and baby-eating

I knew her as an amazing, hilarious blogger, not as a zazzler. After finding her store, aptly named The Bloggess, I realized that her surreal sarcasm extends to crazy designs as well. "Ass magnet" is an amazing idea and a must have for all you smart, perverted souls out there!

Have you ever felt the need for cute, baby-eating cats? Well, Jenny Lawson  tells it like it is:
This mousepad is awesome because people will see it and they'll be all "Aw, what a sweet kitty!" and then they'll read the bottom and they'll be all confused and they'll back out of your office without ever giving you whatever work they wanted you to do. The cat on this mousepad just saved you from work. Also, it eats babies.

For once, I'm speechless. I should add, though, that if you haven't visited her blog, The Bloggess (Like Mother Teresa, only better), you are missing out on the craziest, most enjoyable rumblings this side of the web!

A gentleman from Denmark

There is no limit to people's surreal creativity. Look at this eye-popping fridge magnet picturing a Great Dane. It's pure pop madness -of the dog loving, sartorially inspired, kind! I absolutely need this for my fridge and I know where to get it: Ada Birk's Doggenhaus, the shop where dog designs fraternize with vibrant colors.

The subtle delights of cloudswinging

This surreal concept is laid back and dreamy. I love the calm feeling and the sense of freedom it gives. It was a pleasure to create and I was lucky enough that it got noticed and awarded as one of September 16th's best among the thousands of products that see the light of day at Zazzle.
This silhouetted man that swings from the skies is quite minimal and graceful, if you ask me, and it works just as good on a t-shirt as on the parallelogram format of paper stuff. You can find it in the Cloudswinger section of Surreality -don't be shy, have a look!

And here's a little something to convince you that it's great even without the angles! Not bad for a design that started as an offshoot of something with a really different mood and approach.

Hairy slothy

This is the absolute king of taking it slow. Sloths, the slow-moving, low-metabolism mammals that live in rainforests, inspired Brett Manning to showcase her abilities (and her fine attention to detail) with pens in this great design. She's at her best depicting hairy, rootsy, entangled images, while keeping a sense of lightness and balance.
Take a look at this one:
A great shoe design and an inventive transformation of natural elements into a bizarre (and extremely appealing) fashion item. All this and more, from her store BrettIsAGirl.
Oh, and don't forget to visit Brett's website for more illustration magic (plus some great lettering!).

Twisted Celt

You can't go wrong with this guy! Do you remember Bradley W.Schenck, the fabulous artist who gave us Retropolis Travel? I wrote about him sometime ago and I feel obliged to do it again, this time regarding his outstanding work in the intricate celtic tradition -always with a touch of his great humor.
I'm drooling over this superb Cthulhu design. A really unique blend of Great Old Ones imagery and Celtic knotwork that would leave H.P.L. himself at a loss for words!
In his gallery, Ars Celtica, traditional, mythical and modern elements are combined to give pieces of beautiful perplexity, such as this one:
Bradley, a true master of his art, began exploring Celtic-influenced art back in the '80s. Lucky for us, he has never stopped streching this side of his talent ever since. My personal all-time favorite? If I should chose just one it would be this discreetly ominous mug:

A vintage theater poster of Nyarlathotep (the Older God who used dark charisma to propagate owe and chaos in our mortal societies). Inspired by the true origins of this demonic entity as formed in Lovecraft's own dreams: the ultimate sinister showman. Details such as the "Pickman Theatre" and the "Shining trapezohedron" gain my absolute respect!

Time for some thositive pinking

OK, I'll be frank here, I'm not into that inspirational/motivational stuff. Most of the time I think it's just tasteless glurge. I'm not into simple text desings either. Dogmatism doesn't belong in this blog, though, and there are times when I find my cynical self accepting the "other side". Especially when it doesn't take itself too seriously and makes me laugh. And the gentle art of Thositive Pinking cracks me up every time!
Here is a magnet to cheer you up in the face of adversity. A semi-ironic (but inspirational, nonetheless) motto to live by. Or maybe, die by. Or just to laugh with. The typeface and the wordplay are great, reminding of the stylish Pink Panther cartoon.
You can find it at Donnie Rocky's Gallery, amongst many designs, mainly based on photography. If magnets don't turn you on (I know: this phrase sounds perverted!), Donnie was thoughtful enough to place it on other products as well. Put it on your fridge and get rid of these self-help books.

Prog-rock butterfly

Like a breeze from the '70s progressive rock era, comes this design by FlyingDisc store. Remindful of a concert billboard, it's sweet and, at the same time, weird -just the way we like things here in Surreality Watch! I like it on a simple square magnet, though it's also available on apparel and other products. FlyingDisc excels in space-influenced themes and abstracts.
