Dead Mickey on board

Summer. The perfect time for blissful afternoon skating. The laughing skeleton of a very famous mouse wearing the distinct clothes: the perfect design for a surreal (and slightly dark) skateboard.

This weird concept of a dead Mickey Mouse came from Evilive Produkts, Juan Pollo's creative outlet for interesting, imaginative gifts and products. You'll like what you'll find there!
If you speak Spanish you'll probably appreciate his Porn-O-Graffix blog, too. Me, I could only enjoy the design and the music.

Attention to detail, exquisite craftsmanship and, most of all, the ability to transform the political into art makes Emek one of the most talented artists around. I love this surreal corn fish (a design against genetically modified food) and his incredible phonoskull, but his store is full of equally amazing artwork.

I recently found these wonderful skateboard decks and I couldn't wait to write about them! They are almost monochromatic (apart from a slight yellow tint on Stan and a blue one on Angel). Both are true works of art: odd, dark, gritty, moody and so well-balanced in their design that they grasp your attention at first sight.

The first one is from RAW Designs (RAW standing for Ryan Anthony Wolper, a new designer from Maryland) and the one below is from 3131 Theory (aka B. Hayden Arban and Patrice Vandehey, Texan artists and designers). Their stores offer real treasures and they certainly deserve your attention!

This is a really neat design that makes for a unique skateboard. Behold an exquisite King, based on player cards tradition (he seems to be the King of Spades, even though he is red), riding a bicycle, of all things!
I found this stylish deck on Brand New Intention, alongside other great designs, and it sure caught my surreality-seeking eye. It's a collaboration with artist Bucky Lastard, a really talented guy with an interesting blog -and a name to remember!

Ninja jesters, two-legged mutant mutts, Joris-Karl Huysmans and Nicola Tesla's forehead have something in common: they are in good company at Segrid's dimensionally transcendental store! Segrid, aka Patrick Reinhart, is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to strangely humorous and surreal designs. His Roar skateboard is one of my all-time favorites -plus, it may be the only mustachioed skateboard around!

What a delicious skateboard! The effect of the wood showing through in front of the eyes gives a surreal, superhero look on this design. Great work from a small gallery named Area 32. Not many things to chose from, but they have a cool taste for skateboards.

It's about time that Surreality Watch features a skateboard. No better place to start than this crazy one-eyed monstrosity from RiseGear. This wacky blue character in a sunburst background gives a taste of "terror-from-the-deep"-ness to urban skating adventures. In short: it's awesome, funny and has the coolest colors. This design is typical of the colorful craziness that dominates RiseGear's work.
